History
Although the youngest state university in New Mexico, we look with pride upon our accomplishments since the dream of having a university in eastern New Mexico first arose many decades ago. The Legislature of 1927 located the University in Portales, and the Legislature of 1929 approved the first appropriation for buildings.

Housing services
As a student, you need a safe environment that gives you privacy, quiet time and a place to keep your stuff. You also need a place where you can feel comfortable hanging out with your friends, listening to music or doing whatever it is you do to relax. You will find just the environment you need in our three dormitories and 300 apartments.
Library services
The Golden Library has been a center of research and learning on the ENMU campus for years. Thanks to New Mexico voter support of G.O. Bond C in the 2016 November election, ENMU completed the renovation in summer 2018 to turn the Golden Library into the Golden Student Success Center.
Medical services
La Casa ENMU Student Health Services is here to help you maintain a positive, healthy lifestyle, which contributes to your academic success. Your student activity fees fund La Casa ENMU Student Health Services and 100% of our budget is used to deliver quality health care to you. To use our services feel free to walk-in or make an appointment.
Campus life
Whether you are thinking about attending ENMU, considering an ENMU job opportunity or just looking for general information about our campus, this section of our site is where you'll find details about the ENMU-Portales buildings and facilities. Our campus consists of more than 400 acres with many different types of facilities from classrooms and dorms to athletic areas and performance venues.
Sports facilities
At ENMU we know that having opportunities to be active is essential to your health and success as a student, staff or faculty. To cater to your diverse interests we provide a fitness facility, swimming facility, climbing wall and boxing area. For those looking for competitive opportunities we facilitate intramurals.
Student clubs
The Office of Campus Life serves as the focal point for more than 50 registered student organizations on campus. This office gives you the opportunity to create clubs and organizations if your interest does not already exist. Student organizations build leadership within the groups and take part in various events throughout the year.
