The Citadel - The Military College of South Carolina

History

The Citadel is a landmark in Charleston and South Carolina that is noted for its educational reputation as well as its rich history. Founded in 1842, The Citadel has an undergraduate student body who make up the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.

Education

The Citadel is best known nationally for its Corps of Cadets, which draws students from about 45 states and a dozen countries. The men and women in the Corps live and study under a classical military system that makes leadership and character development an essential part of the educational experience.

Research

The primary objective of The Citadel Undergraduate Research Office (URO) is to facilitate the engagement of undergraduate students in investigative inquiry, experimentation, or creative expression under the guided mentorship of faculty. Work pursuing any dimension of original exploration using qualitative, quantitative, design, or creative processes is encouraged. Join fellow cadets in scholarly activities available to all students at The Citadel.

Career

The Citadel Career Center empowers students and alumni to explore career options, prepare for the workforce, and engage with potential employers. We accomplish this with personalized consulting, online tools, and consistent networking with alumni and employers.

Student services

The purpose of this office is to provide support and guidance for all graduate student groups, organizations and clubs on campus. In order to be authorized to hold meetings and events, all graduate clubs and organizations are required to charter through the Office of Student Activities. By providing the graduate community a uniform system of support, The Citadel as an institution will be able to play a more active role in your club and organization's success.

Housing services

The Citadel has 76 Faculty and Staff quarters units on the campus. These units range in size from 1200 square foot, two bedroom units to four bedroom units with 2700 square feet. The majority of the units are located in multifamily housing buildings of four or more units. Presently there are four single-family residences in the 76 total.

Library services

The Citadel’s library services have evolved from occupying a single room on the former Marion Square campus in 1842. When the college relocated to the banks of the Ashley River, library space was built within Bond Hall in 1922. The present-day Daniel Library was constructed in 1960 and partially renovated in 2010 with generous gifts from the Daniel Foundation of Alabama.

ICT services

In 2011, The Citadel began the process of creating the LEAD Plan 2018 which serves as the college's map to realize strategic growth and innovation which will ensure the strong future of The Citadel. In November 2015, The Citadel hires its first Chief Information Officer (CIO) with the role of creating an IT Strategic Plan that aligns with The LEAD 2018 initiative.

Medical services

The Citadel Infirmary supports the educational mission of The Citadel by providing accessible and high quality health care to The South Carolina Corps of Cadets. We strive to maintain the physical, psychological and social health of cadets through an interdisciplinary team approach of providing primary care and promoting health education and wellness.

Student clubs

The Cadet Activities Directorate is responsible for the chartering and supervision of all official Citadel clubs and organizations. These clubs and organizations not only allow cadets to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, they are an important part of The Citadel’s leader development process. This page contains a link to the chapter of the White Book that describes the policies and procedures and other documents associated with clubs and organizations.

The Citadel is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters, and specialist in education degrees.
