History
In 1939, Louisiana opened the Lake Charles Junior College, a division of Louisiana State University and the forerunner of McNeese State University. The following year, the school changed its name to John McNeese Junior College to honor John McNeese, a renowned Southwest Louisiana educator and the first superintendent of schools in Imperial Calcasieu Parish.
Education
Located in one of the fastest growing areas in the state, the local petrochemical, agricultural and hospitality industries, as well as hospitals and public and private schools throughout SWLA, rely on McNeese to provide well-qualified employees. Our graduates also go on to successfully start their own businesses, from law offices to veterinary practices.
Housing services
The residential student experience is a great complement to academic achievement and career preparation. Rise Real Estate Company provides contracted management services to McNeese in directing day to day operations of housing and residence life on the campus.
Medical services
Health Services is located in the Watkins Infirmary on the McNeese campus. We provide acute care medical services to all enrolled McNeese students. Staff include registered nurses, and doctors maintain daily clinic hours on the premises.
Campus life
Living on campus enriches the collegiate experience like nothing else. Residential life offers students quick access to campus resources and support services, a close-knit residential community and the convenience of all-inclusive housing amenities.
Sports facilities
The Recreational Sports Complex offers students, faculty, staff and alumni the opportunity to participate in a variety of programs and sports that contribute to the educational environment, health and wellness of the university.Visit the Olympic size swimming pool, weight room, or cardiovascular theatre to work on your fitness goals on your own time. Or, join one of the many fitness classes held weekly during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
