Francis Marion University (formerly Francis Marion College) is a state-supported liberal arts university located six miles (11 km) east of Florence, South Carolina, USA. It is named in honor of American Revolutionary War hero Brigadier General Francis Marion.

About
History
Francis Marion University was founded on July 1, 1970 through a special piece of legislation signed by Governor Robert McNair. The bill creating the then college, was in response to an overwhelming need for a public education institution in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina.

Research
FM Research & Exhibition Day is a day dedicated to celebrating student projects that have been conducted throughout the school year. At FM Research & Exhibition Day, graduate and undergraduate students get the opportunity to share the work that they have completed with the FMU faculty, staff and students. Participation in FM Research & Exhibition Day is open to all students from all disciplines. All forms of presentation are welcome and encouraged. Additionally, projects of all stages (from concept to completion) are accepted.

The Student Government Association at FMU represents the student body by working to continually ensure that the FMU experience is the best it can be. - The Forest Villas - Large single bedrooms each have a full bed, 4-drawer chest, closet, study desk and chair, Two full bathrooms in each four bedroom apartment, Shared living area with entertainment center stand, upholstered sofa, chair, and end tables, Shared dining area with dining table and chairs.,Fully equipped shared kitchen including stove, microwave, refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, and garbage disposal.
Library services
- The James A. Rogers Library serves the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning by providing Francis Marion’s students, faculty, staff and regional citizens with access to scholarly information and other resources.
- A competent and qualified library staff is available to assist all users with their informational inquiries. We therefore welcome your feedback and suggestions.
ICT services
ResNet consists of the wired and wireless networks available to all FMU students living on-campus. ResNet makes it possible for residential students to connect their personal computers directly to the network. A data jack is provided for each student in their dorm or apartment within all residence halls of Francis Marion University.
Medical services
The Student Health Center is available for:
- Upper respiratory infections
- Musculoskeletal injuries
- Rashes
- Insect Bites
- Depression, Stress, and Anxiety (Referrals made as necessary to Student Counseling)
- Some diagnostic tests such as the rapid strep, rapid mono, rapid flu, blood sugar checks, and urinalysis are available as indicated
- Drawing blood (which is sent to Lab Corps for a fee)

Campus life
Francis Marion's 468-acre main campus is rightly known for its beauty and serenity. The campus includes acres of mixed pine-hardwood and bottomland forests accessed by a series of trails. The “woodsy” feel is a fit with the surrounding countryside, but the campus trees were carefully cultivated during the early years. Thousands were planted, on what was, at inception, largely farmland. Combined with an equal number of complementary ornamental shrubs and small trees, an oasis of beauty was created.
