About

History

Wartburg College traces its roots to 1852, when Pastor Wilhelm Löhe of Neuendettelsau, Bavaria, sent Pastor Georg Grossmann to America to work as a missionary of the Lutheran faith. With five students, Grossmann founded a teacher-training school for German immigrants in Saginaw, Mich.

Education

The liberal arts education you will receive at Wartburg allows you to not only gain the skills required from your chosen field of study, but also the critical thinking skills required to explore the ethics of decision-making and community engagement, effective communication, cultural competence, and collaboration.

Research

Undergraduate research is an inquiry or investigation conducted by an undergraduate student that makes an intellectual or creative contribution to the discipline. Funding is available for students to engage in research and travel to conferences to present their research. Wartburg College Undergraduate Research (WCUR)  provides resources for faculty working with students as well as conference listings and publications that accept student submissions.

Services

Student services

The International Student Services Office (ISSO), Saemann Student Center 185, provides services to international students and seeks to promote global understanding through campus, intercollegiate, and community outreach.  The primary role of the International Student Services Office is to provide excellent immigration advising for our international students and compliance operations for Wartburg College.  The office also provides a new international student orientation, material support, and advising on employment, Social Security, health insurance, and cross-cultural communication.

Housing services

Wartburg prides itself on being a four-year residential institution and the Residence Life staff works hard to bring educational opportunities into the halls for their students. In all of the residence halls at Wartburg, resident assistants (RAs) and Area Coordinators (ACs) plan educational programs based on Wartburg’s four pillars (leadership, service, faith and learning). In addition to the educational programs that occur, RAs also plan floor meetings and community- building activities. Students who reside in The Residence complete a yearlong service project they design along with their suitemates.

Library services

Vogel Library creates inclusive, safe spaces that facilitate collaboration, engagement, communication, and ethical educational development while respecting the diversity of the Wartburg community.

ICT services

The Information Services department of Wartburg College provides numerous services for the campus community including:

  • Network attached storage for easy access from anywhere
  • Wireless network support across the campus
  • Anti-virus and malware protection and installation
  • Email account creation and storage
