History

The story of UiT. In 2018, 50 years passed since Stortinget (the Norwegian National Assembly) enacted the establishment of a university in the northern region of Norway. Half a century later, UiT the Arctic University of Norway has firmly established its stature as a multidisciplinary university.

Education

Teaching is research-based. UiT´s eight faculties offer, in spite of a dedication to Northern issues, a broad range of study programmes. The academic community in Tromsø is highly international. More than 20% of the academic staff and 10% of the student body are from abroad. The University offers more than 20 English taught master´s degree programmes, and all faculties offer English taught courses at both bachelor’s and master’s level.

Housing services

The Housing Department offers rental of rooms to students at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, Alta, Narvik, Hammerfest, Harstad and Longyearbyen. 

The rooms are equipped with basic furniture and share some common facilities: kitchen, bathrooms, toilets, storage rooms and laundry room. The Arctic Student Organisation of Norway provides hardware items in the kitchen: refrigerator, cooker, dining table, chairs, etc. Students should supply their own kitchen equipment

  • VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a prerequisite to gain access to many of the university's restricted services. There are several ways to install Anyconnect. We recommend Manual installation for privately set up machines and Installation through Software center for UiT computers.

Campus life

  • Campus Tromsø is the administrative center of the university.
  • Campus Alta is growing in student numbers and the study portfolio is expending. They have well established international cooperation with partner institutions in Europe, the Barents Region and the Circumpolar North in general.
  • Hammerfest is known as «the oil city» in Finnmark, where Snøhvit-gas is produced.
  • Harstad is located on the biggest island of Norway “Hinnøya”.
  • Kirkenes has been considered the capital of the Barents region.
  • At the foot of Fagernes Mountain, Narvik has established itself as a unique and attractive technological focal point for bright minds, successful companies and active students.

Hitit univeristy

My university (Hitit University) in Çorum, Turkey, and it is a strong choice for students interested in international relations. The IR program offers a diverse curriculum and experienced faculty who bring both theoretical and practical knowledge to the classroom. The university's focus on internationalization is a standout feature, with active exchange programs and international conferences that expose students to diverse perspectives. High rent, solid program

Generally good facilities/faculty/program. Only areas of improvement are related to the Norwegian university system as a whole or the city in which it is located. Campus housing is not recommended but renting is very expensive
