Concordia University Irvine (formerly Christ College) is a private Christian university located in Irvine, California, United States. It was established in 1976 in an effort to provide a Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod college to serve the Pacific Southwest.

Concordia University Irvine was established in 1976 in an effort to provide a Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod college to serve the Pacific Southwest.


The university currently includes five schools: Christ College (Christian seminary), School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Education, and School of Professional Studies; and offers 20 undergraduate majors and 50 specializations, nine graduate programs, four adult bachelor's degree completion programs, and three nursing programs.

Housing services

Your time living in the Residence Halls can be as fulfilling as you choose to make it. We encourage you to get to know your neighbors by participating in hall and building activities. We offer an on-campus gym (CU Active) and a bike rental program (CU Rides) to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle and explore the Orange County area. We provide the opportunities, but your engagement with the community is entirely up to you. We hope you make the most of it.

Library services

We provide students and faculty with access to resources and services necessary for their intellectual advancement in an academic environment and in support of the research and instructional mission of the University. We strive to be Concordia’s gateway to the world of information and scholarship.

Medical services


  • Assessment and Treatment of Injuries and IllnessesThe Nurse Practitioner, utilizing policies and procedures developed collaboratively by a consulting physician and administration, will see students for assessment of illness and injury. She is able to provide treatment for a selected number of common health conditions. Referrals are made to community resources that are covered by their personal health insurance when possible for those areas that are beyond her scope of practice.
  • TB (Tuberculosis) Testing: TB tests (PPD-Mantoux) are given on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and read two days later.
  • Immunizations (MMR, Tdap, Meningitis, HepB, Flu)
  • Nurse Practitioner consultation on health topics
  • Referral to community resources as needed

Student Life

Campus life

The campus is located 50 miles (80 km) south of Los Angeles, 80 miles (130 km) north of San Diego, and 6 miles (9.7 km) inland from the Pacific Ocean in the city of Irvine. Irvine is a planned community which is rated one of the safest cities of its size in the United States. The campus rests on a 70-acre (28 ha) plateau overlooking Orange County in a private residential community surrounded by wildlife and hiking trails. The offices of the School of Professional Studies - Adult Degree Programs, M.A. International Studies, and the Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration (MCAA) teams moved to an offsite location in Irvine.

Sports facilities

Concordia University Irvine athletics teams (mascot: Eagles) are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Div. II). Primarily competing in the Pacific West Conference (PAC West), men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo, and lacrosse; women's teams include softball, basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo, lacrosse, and cheer.
