History

Founded in 1970, the RCWG generates and applies research, develops curricula, prepares evaluation tools and conducts outreach for the purpose of supporting and inspiring initiatives to improve the lives of women and girls locally and nationally.

Education

  • Alverno’s 60-plus undergraduate program areas reflect majors, minors and adult and degree completion programs. 
  • Alverno offers graduate programs for women and men: an Educational Specialist in School Psychology, a Master of Arts in Education for teachers, a Master of Science in Nursing with eight tracks, a Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing, a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Music Therapy, a Master of Science in Community Psychology, a Master of Arts in Music and Liturgy, a Doctor of Nursing Practice, and a Doctorate in Education.

Career

At the Career Education Center, resources and tools are available to empower you to employ your interests and education in a career. During the past three years, 94% of Alverno undergraduate alumnae were employed six months after graduation, and 84% report that their jobs were directly related to their studies at Alverno. Career education and activities are integrated throughout your curriculum, helping you focus and develop the abilities needed to be successful in your chosen field.

Student services

Alverno Student Government - The Alverno Student Government (ASG) serves the undergraduate student body by:

  • Providing a means for students to be effective citizens and leaders by representing the student body in decisions;
  • Giving students an opportunity to effectively express concerns;
  • Addressing issues by working with individuals, committees, and departments;
  • Advocating for student concerns and needs;
  • Encouraging communication and policy development on campus-wide issues;
  • Providing needed services; and
  • Setting, allocating, and dispensing student fees collected by the College

Housing services

  • All first year students are housed in Austin Hall in a double room on Meal Plan One. Austin Hall is the home of our Learning Communities which include the Community Service and Leadership, Center for Academic Excellence and Wellness/Athletics communities.
  • After that first year, there are many different room styles to choose from in both Austin and Clare Hall, and three different meal plan choices. Alverno offers suites (single with a bathroom), large singles, small singles, and doubles in Austin Hall. Suites and large singles are available in Clare Hall. Clare Hall provides a more independent living environment for its residents. 

Library services

Throughout its history, the Alverno College Archives has had a reputation for quality service. The Archives is currently staffed by one full-time archivist/records manager, Sara Shutkin and a part-time archives assistant, Debra Butz.

Medical services

  • Health Services promotes the overall health and well-being of students and is committed to providing high-quality care to individuals, developing health education information and offering resources to promote healthy lifestyles.
  • It is free to see the nurse. There are nominal fees for prescription medications, flu shots and immunizations. These fees will be charged to your student account. 

Campus life

Our two residence halls on campus, Austin Hall and Clare Hall, are nestled on 46-acres of lush green space with running and walking paths, picnic tables and places for socializing, studying and reflection. Both residence halls offer the convenience of living close to classrooms, academic resources, campus clubs and organizations, performances and friends.

As an on-campus resident, you will enjoy meal service, free parking, a fitness center, a full calendar of activities, as well as easy access to downtown Milwaukee.
