History
Mount Saint Mary College was founded by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in 1959, but the Mount has been an academic presence here in Newburgh since 1883. The college's roots in education, and in the training of educators, go even further back to the 13th century and Saint Dominic.
Education
We offer our students an affordable liberal arts education with strong academic undergraduate programs and three graduate programs. Our degree programs in business, education, the health professions, media studies, and the social sciences are linked to high career growth fields. Mount students excel in their chosen fields by selecting internships and study abroad experiences that add dimension and value to their education.
Research
Mount Saint Mary College offers its students many opportunities to be involved in scholarly activities and field research. These include contributions to a faculty member’s ongoing research efforts or independent projects initiated by students and guided by faculty mentorship.
Our students have published and presented at conferences around the country, and even the world! These accomplishments provide many advantages for students seeking post-graduate employment opportunities and for students applying for acceptance into graduate programs, where undergraduate research is increasingly valued.
Career
The Mount's Career Center is one of the college's most successful student and alumni support programs.
Mount graduates commonly credit the Career Center for providing powerful, proven, and practical tools that they use to shape and polish their post-graduate portfolios. More than just a student program, the center provides life-long tools for success and advancement for students and alumni.
Student services
The Office of Student Success (OSS) offers proactive, student-centered support to every Mount student through academic coaching, one-on-one and small group tutoring, supplemental academic advising, and the Parent Partnership Program. The OSS’s intrusive, developmental approach toward coaching, tutoring and advising supports the holistic academic development of our first-year students.
Housing services
The Mount seeks to offer our students inclusive communities, social and educational opportunities, and safe and well-maintained residence facilities. All of our residence halls are newly built or recently renovated. More than 1,000 students call our residence halls home.
Library services
The Kaplan Family Library and Learning Center creates a dynamic, responsive learning environment by connecting people with information. The library facilitates teaching and learning, advances scholarship, and serves as a vibrant and welcoming gathering place for the Mount Saint Mary College community.
ICT services
The Office of Technology is divided into support elements designed to enhance campus support. The elements include Audio/Visual Support Services, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems Services, Instructional Media Services, Network/Wireless Services, Hardware/Software Support Services, Telephony Services, and the IT Help Desk.
Medical services
Health services are available to all full-time undergraduate students. The office is designed to provide treatment for acute illness and injury. The student health services fee covers the cost of routine care and over-the-counter medications.
