History

The Ontario College system was founded as “a new level and type of education to serve those parts of the population whose needs were not met by the existing education system. Focused mainly on career-oriented education, colleges would create a system which would be a coherent whole”. (Ontario Dept. of Education, Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Basic Documents, 1967)

In addition, the Ottawa Campus Library carries a limited Government Document collection and a small Law collection.

Campus life

Our main campus is designed around student needs. It includes the facilities and services — from public busing to affordable, healthy food — that make student life efficient, worry-free and productive. The campus is set up to encourage an enriching student experience.

Sports facilities

Whether you’re interested in competitive sports or just want to stay fit, you’ll find many opportunities to stay active and have fun at Algonquin.

Algonquin is a proud member of both the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA). Our Varsity teams compete in 6 sports at the provincial level within the OCAA. In addition, our Men’s and Women’s teams in Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball can qualify to compete for a “National Championship” as members of the CCAA.

The Ottawa Accreditation Committee has made the Accreditation Manual document available online through the links below. The Manual EQRS posted at the bottom of this page will allow you to enter your scores from the manual into an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will calculate the scores from the manual for you. The purpose of the manual is to measure the quality of care in early learning and child care environments.
