With faith, perseverance and the support of local businessmen and church leaders, Kansas Wesleyan University opened its doors in 1886. Our university, from the very early days of its existence, was built on a pioneering spirit.

Education

The mission of Kansas Wesleyan University is to promote and integrate academic excellence, spiritual development, personal well-being, and social responsibility.

Kansas Wesleyan provides an educational program characterized by excellence, within a caring community, rooted in the liberal arts tradition. The call of the university is to develop both intellect and character, to stimulate creativity and a sense of discovery, and to nurture the whole person - body, mind, and spirit. Diversity is embraced in curriculum, faculty, and students.

Research

There are many opportunities for undergraduate students in Biology to conduct research, especially during the summer in NSF-funded REU Programs. In addition, there are a variety of undergraduate research grants that can be applied for in order to conduct research at KWU.

Career

Located in a robust city of nearly 50,000, KWU has partnerships with local, regional and global businesses, at the regional hospital and within the thriving arts community. Salina businesses employ KWU students in part-time jobs, internships and post-graduate positions in their career field. Students hone their skills alongside professionals in the Salina Symphony and at the Salina Community Theatre. A regional airport provides non-stop daily flights to Denver and Chicago.

Student services

The Student Development Office strives to create an environment that fosters students’ development academically, personally, emotionally, physically and socially from orientation to graduation.

Housing services

There are currently three residence halls and two campus apartment structures at Kansas Wesleyan University. Each residence hall has an individual floor resident assistant to aid with adjusting to campus life, promote and encourage activity involvement, and make sure each resident is safe and following residence hall policies. Every hall also has at least one resident director who oversees the RAs and residents in that hall and is in charge of safety and daily management of the building.

Library services

Memorial Library is the heart of learning on campus, offering informational and recreational materials for research, instruction, and entertainment. Memorial Library furnishes the campus community with access to over 63,000 book volumes and a large periodical collection of journals and magazines. Electronic databases give 24/7 access to thousands of journals and articles.

My School application Journey

Starting my studies at Kansas State University in July 2025 has been a largely positive experience. I truly appreciate the warm and welcoming atmosphere on campus, which immediately made me feel like part of a close-knit community. The campus itself is beautiful, clean, and easy to navigate, with plenty of opportunities to get involved in clubs and social activities that enrich the college experience. Academically, the professors are dedicated and approachable, always encouraging students to seek help when needed, which has been very supportive for my learning journey. One area for improvement would be the cleanliness of dormitory bathrooms, which sometimes fell short of expectations despite reporting issues. However, this minor inconvenience was far outweighed by the friendliness of dorm members and the overall supportive environment. The combination of strong academic resources, social support, and a sense of belonging makes Kansas State University a great fit for students seeking both personal and academic growth. Overall, my time here so far has been rewarding, and I would recommend K-State to prospective students looking for a balanced and engaging study experience.
