Midland University owns a rich history stretching across more than 130 years of service in higher education. First founded in 1883 as Luther College and established as Midland College in Atchison in 1887, Midland is the product of several college and church mergers. The institution settled in its current location of Fremont, Neb., in 1919 and was later renamed Midland Lutheran College in 1962.

For more than 130 years, Midland University has supported liberal arts and Lutheran higher education traditions. These traditions encourage open inquiry and consideration of ideas critical to understanding both the human condition and human potential.
