Throughout its 139-year history, the University of Rio Grande has recorded significant accomplishments including academic achievement and new buildings that provide instructional space for more than 2000 students.
Education
The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College is America's unique private/public institution of higher education designed to provide learners the opportunity to attain a high-quality, high-value education. The personalized, learner-centered environment promotes successful lives, careers, and responsible citizenship.
Research
Working with faculty, staff, and students, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness facilitates campus-wide processes for Continuous Quality Improvement in the areas of Assessment, Accreditation, Institutional Research and Strategic Planning to support Rio’s mission. The core functions of the office are to:
- Collect, analyze, present and disseminate data to pertinent audiences;
- Counsel departments on design and methodology related to research projects;
- Serve as a resource in the area of student learning outcomes assessment;
- Support enrollment through research projects on retention, attrition, and success;
- Facilitate program review, accreditation, and strategic/unit planning processes;
Housing services
As a NEW STUDENT, you must first apply for admission to Rio Grande and complete the enrollment process. Upon completion of the enrollment process you will be given access to the Room Reservation and Residence Hall Agreement forms on-line.
Campus life
The University of Rio Grande offers a variety of opportunities for students to be involved in campus life. Numerous activities that are recreational, educational, and cultural are offered throughout the academic year to accommodate the diverse interests of our students. Past events have included ski and hiking trips, concerts, coffeehouse acts, comedians, out-door carnival attractions, simulators, dances, fundraisers, professional hockey games, and NFL games. Student interests are the driving force behind planning campus activities.

Accreditation
- The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College has been accredited by the North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission since 1969.
- The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) approves the Higher Learning Commission as an organization of accreditation.
- Rio Grande maintains its HLC Accreditation through the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP).

Over crowded
Classes were overcrowded, which can be demotivating when starting your career. It is quite easy to get lost in the University and there isn't much guidance. Some classes and professors are really helpful and caring, others not so much. I advice anyone who joins to form a good study group and find supportive people to make it through.
