Simpson University

History

Simpson University was founded in 1921 as Simpson Bible Institute by W.W. Newberry, who served as its first president. Established in Seattle, Washington, the school was named in honor of Albert Benjamin Simpson (1843-1919), a Presbyterian minister who pioneered the Bible institute movement during the late nineteenth century and founded the Christian and Missionary Alliance.

Research

The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment collects, analyzes and disseminates essential information about Simpson University's environment and performance (per state and federal mandates). This information supports institutional management, planning and decision-making to help serve parents and students and to build and maintain an environment of academic excellence.

Residence life is an integral part of the Simpson University experience. It is a place to build community and make lifelong friends. Based on the university's commitment to student success and the residential experience, a majority of undergraduate students live in one of the university on-campus residences.

Library services

Access Simpson's Start-Kilgour Memorial Library to search for books, view electronic resources, check the library's schedule and hours, or to access resources such as JSTOR or ProQuest. The library is located in the Grubbs Learning Center. This 9,200 square foot facility houses over 100,000 volumes and provides seating for 115.

Sports facilities

  • Simpson University's athletics department is catching up with its opponents in terms of training.
  • The four-year private university in Redding unveiled its revamped weight room prior to the Thanksgiving break, showing off about $90,000 worth of equipment that is also available to the student body and faculty, director of athletics Tom Galbraith said.

Student clubs

The Student Activities Committee exists to facilitate a variety of campus wide events for all students to engage in the community at Simpson University.

Simpson University has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) since 1969. WSCUC is one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States.
