History

California State University, Dominguez Hills was founded in 1960; however, the campus sits on land that has a long and rich history. The university's 346 acres were once a section of the first private land grant in Southern California—the Rancho San Pedro. Juan José Dominguez (1736-1809), a Spanish soldier, received the original grant of 75,000 acres in 1784 from King Carlos III of Spain.

  • CSU Dominguez Hills was ranked 32nd on the magazine's list of "Top Public Schools" among Western Regional Universities.
  • The magazine listed CSUDH as the 88th-best overall university in the Western Region.
  • In CSUDH was named one of the "Top 100 Most Ethnically Diverse Universities in the West."
  • CSUDH's Nursing master’s degree programs were listed among the best graduate programs in the magazine's "Best Grad Schools."  

Research

The Office of Graduate Studies mission of graduate programs at California State University, Dominguez Hills is to promote advanced study, scholarly activity, and research. The mission of the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs is to help the Dominguez Hills community achieve its educational mission by providing efficient and effective post-award management support for sponsored projects and related sponsored project activities. External funding carries with it a host of legislative guidelines and departmental, sponsor, and campus regulations that require concentrated monitoring.

The Office of Student Life enhances student academic achievement, career competencies, and sense of belonging through programs, resources, student organizations, leadership programs, and annual events.  

Housing services

Housing is opening in a limited capacity this fall and we currently have no spaces available. Any applicant not offered Housing this fall may request to put their application on hold until Spring by sending an email to the University. In the meantime, we will provide updates as we know more regarding Spring occupancy.  

Library services

The University Library fosters student success, scholarly research, and academic excellence through the provision of information resources; user-centered services and learning experiences; and welcoming, technology-enhanced environments that facilitate lifelong learning, collaboration, innovation, and the acquisition of information literacy skills. 

Medical services

The Student Health Center is staffed by a group of health care professionals who are dedicated to your wellness. Physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and clinical assistants provide basic outpatient services for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and subacute illnesses and injuries.

Sports facilities

Located in the Field House next door to the Torodome (Gymnasium), the Weight Room was refurbished in the winter 2017. The Weight Room has free weights, bike and treadmills for cardio use.The Weight Room has hours for students, faculty and staff.Please pick up and fill out waiver at weight room.

Student clubs

Student clubs and organizations are an essential part of the CSUDH campus, representing the most visible and accessible avenue to student involvement. They provide students with a variety of opportunities to explore their academic, professional, political, social, cultural, religious, and community service interests. These leadership experiences allow students to develop interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills that can contribute to their marketability.

California State University, Dominguez Hills, as a CSU campus, was first granted a two-year initial accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in 1964. Upon completion of the campus visit, CSUDH was fully accredited by the WASC Commission in 1968.
