Sotheby’s auction house was founded in 1744 when Samuel Baker, an entrepreneur, occasional publisher, and successful businessman held his first auction.

The Student Support and Counselling Service offers support and counselling to students, helping you to deal with practical and emotional challenges you may experience, and assisting you to feel safe and live confidently in London.
Housing services
Although the Institute does not arrange accommodation on behalf of students, we are pleased to work in partnership with the University of London Housing Service (ULHS).
The ULHS offer an online database of accommodation provided by registered landlords and letting agents, these include flats and houses for groups as well as rooms in shared flats and houses. ULHS aim to ensure that all Landlords are reputable and ask them to sign up to a code of good practice.Library services
Sotheby's Institute of Art has libraries at both the London and New York campuses.

Sotheby’s Institute of Art-NY holds permanent degree-granting authority from the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
