History

Founded in 2017 as part of the European University Institute, the Florence School of Transnational Governance brings the worlds of academia and policymaking together in an effort to navigate a context, both inside and outside Europe, where policymaking increasingly transcends national borders.

Education

In the cradle of the Renaissance, at the Florence School of Transnational Governance we teach, train and learn by providing a platform where transnational policy actors across politics, business, civil society, media and academia meet. We are here for anyone with an open and independent mind, for thinkers and for doers. We bring together some of the best teachers, trainers and policymakers from around the world.

Career

The STG's focus on developing key professional skills through specific training sessions and internships, prepares students for a number of careers working across borders, cultures and national interests.

Our graduates are trained to take on a variety of leadership positions in the global sector, such as multinational firms (i.e.: public communication and corporate responsibility units), NGOs, and national administrations and organisations. Some examples include business associations, the lower-level government and administration and trade unions and lobbying groups increasingly affected by international issues.

Student services

The EUI, of which the STG is part, has a number of services to support members of its community.

The EUI4U is the inter-service, comprehensive Single Point of Contact service of the EUI, offering assistance on all types of issues related to members' experience at the EUI and in the city of Florence. The EUI also offers Wellbeing and Counselling Service, which is free for members of its community.

Housing services

The EUI4U Housing Office is in charge of allocating EUI residential apartments. Furthermore, the Florence Housing Service assists members of the EUI Community in finding long and short term accommodation on the private market in and around Florence.

Library services

The EUI Library has 600,000 paper volumes and more than half a million eBooks on law, economics, history and civilization, and political and social sciences. In addition, the EUI Library provides access to an extensive collection of databases, newspapers and eJournals and has a dedicated team of Library Information Specialists to assist researchers and students.

Campus life

The EUI School of Transnational Governance is located in Villa Buontalenti, a historic building in the centre of Florence. Recently renovated, the premises offer a unique blend of tradition and state-of-the-art technology.

Located in the hills overlooking Florence, the EUI campus is home to the Institute's academic departments, the EUI Library, the Historical Archives of the European Union and a number of research and recreational activities.

Sports facilities

The EUI community has access to small, yet well-equipped, gym and a number of sports facilities. EUI members also have access to discounted prices at partner gyms, swimming pools and other recreational facilities

Student clubs

The Body and Brain Boosting Board (commonly known as 4B) offers support to a number of recreational associations, such as sports teams, a student-led radio, a gardening club, dance classes, civil society engagement groups and much more.

The school actively involves students in a number of educational activities, the lecturers always make sure students are engaged with school work or different class activities, to always keep them occupied.
