Whilst we've been a university for more than 20 years, our history of professional education and research spans more than 100 years. Charles Sturt University dates back to 1895, when the Bathurst Experiment Farm was established. Regional institutions in south-western and western NSW were progressively merged, and CSU was formally incorporated on 19 July 1989. The architecture of Charles Sturt University campuses reflect our history and our future. We are part of our local communities and we offer a diverse range of campus environments and experiences.
We believe wisdom transforms communities. With tenacity, we help to shape resilient, sustainable regions for the future. Acknowledging the culture and insight of Indigenous Australians, our ethos is clearly described by the Wiradjuri phrase, yindyamarra winhanganha, meaning the wisdom of respectfully knowing how to live well in a world worth living in. We continue to work towards the public good. We are focused on developing individuals who help their communities grow and flourish. We aim to be an education leader for Australia by empowering our communities with the resilience, drive and mindset to positively impact their world, and the world around them.
