History
Northland College was founded in 1892 to help make a barren and prejudiced world a better place both physically and socially. Northland's United Church of Christ founders used the best interpretation of the spiritual to be inclusive of all community members as their motivation.
Education
Applied Research goes beyond theory to apply the latest knowledge, technologies and innovations toward a specific practical purpose. Research projects can help communities and businesses solve all kinds of problems: everything from uncovering operational inefficiencies to conceptualizing new products and services.
Research
The Department of Applied Research, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation hosts the Innovation Hub to conduct innovative product, process, and service prototyping and testing that enhances industry competitiveness and boosts regional economic development while serving as an experiential learning and resource hub for our students and the broader community.
Housing services
The Timmins Campus Residence offers safety, convenience and affordability. Oh, and it’s seconds away from Porcupine Lake! With 103 single rooms, 12 suites and four double rooms, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. Each room includes: private four-piece bathroom, bed, desk, chair, lamp, closet, drawers, and connections for telephone, cable TV and internet. The residence also offers a large common kitchen with five cooking stations, laundry facilities, lounges with cable television and a games room.
Library services
Northern’s Learning Resource Centres are a focal point for teaching and learning at Northern College. They contribute to every aspect of academic and intellectual life at the college by providing a broad range of services to students, faculty, administration, staff and the community.
Campus life
The School of Welding Engineering Technology at the Kirkland Lake Campus keeps building on its international reputation as a leader in the field of welding education and training. We were the first in North America to become an authorized training body for the International Institute for Welding (IIW). Kirkland Lake rarely sees a dull moment.
Sports facilities
The Wellness Centre at our Timmins Campus features a workout spaces, a weight room, squash court, exercise machines and equipment, with locker rooms and saunas. Our full size gym is equipped for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, floor hockey, and badminton.These facilities are available to all students and employees with memberships available to the public.
Accreditation
Northern College Receives Accreditation From Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario. TIMMINS, ON: Northern College has become the first publicly-funded college in Ontario to receive accreditation from the Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario (TTSAO).
