History

An educational institution with a history dating back to 1892, UCOL Limited has a proud and well-earned reputation for supporting our community’s learning.

Education

As of 1 April 2020, UCOL Limited is a subsidiary of New Zealand’s national vocational skills and training Institute, Te Pūkenga. Acting as a parent organisation to our nation’s 16 vocational institutes and Industry Training Organisations, Te Pūkenga will create a strong, unified system that makes collaboration easier. While we foster relationships with other institutes, our mission remains the same - we exist to inspire students, businesses and communities to succeed.

Research

As a high-performing New Zealand government funded Institute of Technology, UCOL Te Pūkenga has provided over 100 years of excellence in education. With our diverse portfolio of programmes varying from postgraduate qualifications to diplomas, degrees and certificates, we cover a wide range of research areas that have the potential to positively impact our communities and beyond.

As well as helping you with different aspects of your study, our Student Success Team members can help you with more personal needs, and connect you to the right people on campus and in the community that can help.

Housing services

Whatever campus you're studying at, the following information may be helpful if you are looking for accommodation.  You will need to contact accommodation providers directly yourself. UCOL Te Pūkenga can help facilitate living in homestay accommodation, see info below. UCOL Te Pūkenga does not own or operate any student accommodation.

Homestay accommodation is where you live with a New Zealand family. You are provided with your own fully furnished room and three meals a day. 

Living in a homestay is ideal for international students. It will allow you to concentrate on your studies, learn about New Zealand culture, practice English, and get used to life in New Zealand with the support of a friendly family. 

Library services

The UCOL campus libraries are well stocked with books, magazines, journals, DVDs, and CDs. The library website gives you access to a wealth of online resources including eBooks, eJournals, and article databases.We know that finding the right information for your assignment can be challenging, so our library staff can assist you in developing your information management and research skills. 

Medical services

Your physical and mental wellbeing plays a big part in your success in the classroom. Each UCOL campus has a specialist staff member who can provide assistance, or refer you to organisations that support physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Our Student Advocate can also provide advice on things like housing and budgeting. 

Campus life

UCOL has campuses located in UCOL Manawatū, UCOL Whanganui, UCOL Wairarapa and UCOL Horowhenua. We also deliver programmes of study in Kāpiti, and Ruapehu.

UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū is nestled in the heart of the city, close to cafes, bus stops and The Square is the UCOL Te Pūkenga campus in Palmerston North. Named 'Rangitāne Tikaraina ki te Mātauranga' by Rangitāne, its name translates in part to "straight pathway to education".

The campus architecture blends historic buildings with modern facilities. 

Student clubs

UCOL | Te Pūkenga has a small number of clubs and a friendly relationship with MUSA to join Massey University clubs. Join the chess club and enjoy the challenge of playing the “Game of Kings”. You don’t need any experience to get involved; you’ll be given a full explanation of the rules and basic strategies if you need it. Join the UCOL | Te Pūkenga Gardening Club and help take care of the campus vege garden. Gardening is a relaxing hobby and very rewarding when you see the results of your efforts. No experience needed.
