History
Established in 1897 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Avondale values Excellence, Spirituality, Wellbeing, Integrity and Service. These core attributes are evident in our course offerings, extra-curricular activities, staff and student initiatives and our relationship with the wider community.
Education
Avondale’s undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational courses and programs seek to develop the whole person—mental, physical, social and spiritual. Higher education include undergraduate degrees in humanities and the creative arts, business, education, nursing, science and mathematics, and ministry and theology.
Research
Research at Avondale University is designed to align closely with both our purpose – to transform lives through Christ-centred higher education – and our motto – for a greater vision of world needs.
Avondale’s strategy is to model its three specialist areas (BFoEs) of research around the three main areas of Seventh-day Adventist Church mission – teaching, preaching and healing – and our vision of what the world needs, identifying with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals where appropriate.

The Avondale University Library participates actively in fulfilling the mission of Avondale University.

Sports facilities
Avondale offers a range of modern sporting and fitness facilities to staff, students and the general community. With so many individual and team sports available there is something for everyone, no matter what skill level. Whether you’re representing Avondale at university games, versing your friends in a weekly basketball match, or just cheering on your favourite team—sport brings the Avondale community together.
Student clubs
- ASA exists as a student representative committee. We are here to make sure that we can get the best deal for everyone, to make the college experience the most fulfilling it can be.
- ANSA exists as a sudent representative committee for the Sydney Campus that allows the student body to have input into the running of student life.
- SAC organizes social events and activities throughout the year to ensure inclusivity and social interactions
