History

Mary Immaculate College, founded in 1898, is a University-level College of Education and the Liberal Arts, academically linked with the University of Limerick. The College is a multi-campus institution, with a student population of over 5,000 students enrolled in undergraduate programmes in Primary and Post-Primary Education, Psychology, Liberal Arts and Early Childhood Care and Education.

Research

The Research & Graduate School at Mary Immaculate College is based on the John Henry Newman Campus, adjacent to the MIC Limerick Campus, building a community of professional practice in a dedicated research space and providing office accommodation for postgraduate research students and visiting scholars.

Career

The Careers Service provides information and guidance to current undergraduate students in respect of subject choice, postgraduate study, employability and career planning matters. 

The Careers Service aims to provide student-focused careers and employability education and advice for the benefit of undergraduate students' personal and professional skills development.

Housing services

  • Courtbrack Student Accommodation is a purpose-built unit providing quality self-catering accommodation for first year undergraduate students, male and female.
  • MIC Thurles has 36 ensuite bedrooms conveniently located on-campus. Spread over three floors, they provide accommodation for male and female first year students on a single room basis.  

Library services

Mary Immaculate College (MIC) has extensive library facilities on both its Limerick and Thurles campuses, as well as a wealth of online archives and resources which are accessible remotely.

Campus life

  • The MIC Limerick campus has an option to live adjacent to it in Courtbrack Accommodation. Courtbrack Accommodation is a five-minute walk away, located near the Courtbrack Avenue Entrance to MIC on the Dock Road. Courtbrack can house up to 109 students at a time and is open to both male and female students.
  • The MIC Thurles campus has a range of high quality facilities to support the equally high standard of teaching and learning at the facility. It underwent a massive regeneration between 2002 and 2005, and further upgrade works were carried out in 2016 and 2017, including the addition of brand new on-campus accommodation.

Student clubs

Mary Immaculate College and the MISU take great pride in the clubs & societies available to students. MIC has enjoyed great success at the annual Board of Irish College Societies (BICS) Awards. BICS; in 2018 it scooped two prizes: Best New Society (Small College) for MIDANCE (Dance Society), and Best Society in a Cultural, Academic or Social Field (Small College) for MIDAS (Mary Immaculate Dramatic Arts Society).
