History

Originally founded as Judson College in 1963, Judson University is named after American Baptist missionary Adoniram Judson, who became the first Protestant missionary sent from North America to preach in Burma where he remained for almost 40 years.

Education

At Judson University they seek to offer a diverse learning experience that infuses the Christian faith, investigates significant questions of life, and integrates an individual’s sense of purpose.

Research

Members of the Judson University Community will pursue academic formation by developing valuable practical and intellectual skills (e.g., expertise in major/field, critical and creative thinking, information literacy, integrative learning, and effective communication), connecting all areas of study in a variety of ways, and practicing the capacity to contribute to our communities.

Career

Judson University Alumni Career and Mentoring Services provides workforce information, employment and/or internship opportunities as a courtesy to their students. 

The Judson Mentoring Program is a professional development group led by Judson Alumni and spearheaded by members of the Alumni Career Mentoring committee and the Judson Alumni Board. This program's mission is to provide mentoring and guidance to recent graduates and students, and to connect students to Judson Alumni in a meaningful way.

Housing services

Judson University has traditionally been a residential school. To this end, students are required to live on campus unless they meet one of the following criteria:

  • Living with parents within a 45-minute commute. 
  • Married.
  • Not attending the university full-time (less than 12 credit hours). 
  • 23 years of age or older by the first day of fall semester. 
  • Living with Judson faculty or staff in their primary residence (1 student per address).
Students may apply to live on campus during the summer, even if they are not enrolled in a class.

Library services

The Benjamin P. Browne Library contains a wide range of books, periodicals, online databases, and other academic resources for students. Located within the Harm A. Weber Academic Center (HAWAC), the Library also serves as an excellent study space with computers, natural lighting, and wide tables for spreading out your work.

ICT services

The Judson University Information Systems and Technology (IST) serves the computer and technology needs of students, faculty, staff, and visiting lecturers.

Medical services

The Wellness Centre attends to the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional needs of students through resources, health services, and counselling services. 

The Health Services Department is under the coordination of Campus Health Coordinator. It offers emergent care through a paramedicine approach. Its EMS department provides care on a walk-in basis or in response to emergencies when summoned.

Campus life

The main campus, Elgin, Illinois, is home to their traditional undergraduates, University chapel, athletic programs, the Demoss Centre for Worship in the Performing Arts and more. 

Their satellite campus, Rockford, Illinois host classes for adult professional students at the Swedish American Riverfront YMCA.

Sports facilities

Judson University is home to 22 intercollegiate sports teams who compete in the NAIA for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). Their Judson Eagles are also affiliated with the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA).

Accreditation

  • Judson University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is a member of the North Central Association.
  • Judson University’s accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission was reaffirmed in December 2017.
