Franklin Pierce University was founded by Frank S. DiPietro who also served as the first president of the institution. Originally located in the centre of the town of Rindge, the school began by sharing the town's library and study facilities. The first class of students enrolled in 1963. This inaugural class consisted of 97 students supported by nine faculty and administrators.

Franklin Pierce University works to build a scholarly environment and provide opportunities for students to gain authentic hands-onresearch experiences and explore career paths. These experiences also help build a resume: Research projects can be good career preparation, whether for professional school, graduate school or employment in a scientific sector.
The Student Success Center is located in the DiPietro Library on the main Rindge Campus. With a staff of dedicated professionals, the SSC team encourages students to become active learners in their college education. Students may choose from a variety of services offered every semester, free of additional charge.
Besides living amongst peers, Residential Life and Student Activities provide community events to bridge classroom learning to residential living. This enables students to establish meaningful relationships with their peers while engaging in large or small group activities.
The DiPietro Library serves as a hub for the community's intellectual needs and pursuits. The library supports the University curriculum by providing diverse resources to promote intellectual curiosity and by offering instruction in the discovery, evaluation, and use of information.
The mission of the Information Technology Department at Franklin Pierce University is to effectively and collaboratively plan for and deploy educational and administrative technology resources and services;
Club Sports present opportunities for students to develop a team or group with the aspiration of learning new skills and competing. The Club Sport programme complements the University’s intercollegiate athletic programs, intramural activities, and North Fields Activity Centre programmes.
The Student Government Association is dedicated to the vision of being the agents of change for the Franklin Pierce University community. The SGA is built upon the foundation of communication between students and the campus community.
