Housing services

We have 2000 residential places available at our Edinburgh Campus with a range of types and prices, from self-catered rooms to studio flats. 

You will have your own study bedroom, the majority of which have en-suite bathrooms, and access to home comforts – broadband and laundry facilities. Each hall has access to a warden who is there to help you settle in and sort out any problems you might encounter.  There is also 24 hour security on the campus. 

Studying as a postgraduate student at our Edinburgh campus you will be placed in accommodation which is conveniently located just a short walk from your academic buildings and the library.  We have a range of accommodation that is only for postgraduate students.

Library services

With over £9 million being invested in refurbishing the Library and Learning Commons areas, Edinburgh students can expect high quality, technology-enabled study spaces.

With over 700 individual and group study places in the library, 200 in Learning Commons 1 and another 100 in Learning Commons 2 there is plenty of space for you to study, whether on your own or in groups. 

ICT services

Heriot-Watt's network of PCs can be accessed from academic Schools, the library, and some halls of residence. 

The Eduroam wireless service is provided for staff and students, giving the flexibility of easy access to Eduroam wireless services on campus and at other participating institutions.

Medical services

Students are encouraged to join and make use of our on-campus Medical Centre and Dental Practice, which provides top quality medical, nursing, dental and ancillary health care, including physiotherapy. Any health worries that you may have will be dealt with confidentially and efficiently. 

An accredited counsellor is available throughout the year to help you through any difficult experiences.

Campus life

  • Our Edinburgh Campus is set in 380 acres of beautiful parkland. Studying here offers the best of both worlds, a campus environment only six miles from the city centre. 

  • On campus you will find everything you need including accommodation, shops, catering, sports facilities, a hairdresser, a health centre, dentist and the Student Union.

Sports facilities

  • Our Edinburgh Campus became home to Oriam, Scotland's National Sports Performance Centre. Oriam is a £33 million purpose-built sports facility, that transforms Heriot-Watt into the training hub for, among others, Scotland's national football and rugby squads. 
  • Oriam will support you to develop your full potential as an athlete, making our Edinburgh Campus a vibrant place of high-level sport. 
  • Oriam aims to be a collaborative environment to support Scotland's up-and-coming sports men and women, their coaches and volunteers, to train and prepare for competition at the highest levels. The centre will also welcome students, staff, the local community and local sports groups.

Student clubs

  • Heriot-Watt University Student Union is run by students, for students. It is very active and plays a key role in bringing students together through a wide range of student-run clubs and societies. 
  • Heriot-Watt University's Sports Union is a student-led organisation that offers our students the perfect opportunity to join a club, receive coaching and compete in your chosen sport at higher education level. 
  • Sports clubs and are an excellent way to get involved in something active at university. The Union regularly competes at national and international levels in a range of sports, including archery, fencing, mountaineering, squash and volleyball.
