About

History

We have been operating since 1702 and are one of the oldest universities in Central Europe. We build on the historical heritage of Silesia and the legacy of Austrian, Prussian, Czech and Polish culture, continuing also the traditions of the Polish universities in Lviv and Vilnius.

Education

At our 10 faculties (Faculty of Biotechnology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Physics and Astronomy) you will find a wide range of diverse fields of study – from humanities, law and social sciences, to biological, chemical and geographical sciences, as well as mathematics, computer sciences and science.

Research

We hold the title of Research University as the only university in Lower Silesia and one of ten in Poland. This means that in the coming years we will receive additional funding for the implementation of the University of Wrocław project, which was awarded in the competition “Initiative of Excellence – Research University”.

Career

Wrocław University provides employment stability and ample opportunities for development for scientific and administrative staff. This is why the University has trusted specialists representing extensive areas of knowledge, from the humanities to sciences.

A person who has the status of a student/doctoral student of the University of Wrocław or participates in the didactic process of the University of Wrocław can apply for a place in a student house first. In the case of vacant places, it is possible for students from other Wrocław universities to apply for a place in a student house.

Medical services

EU citizens are eligible for free healthcare once they present their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for which they should apply in their own country before coming to Poland. Any student can sign up for NFZ voluntary health insurance. It’s not free (costs 55,80 PLN monthly) but it allows to use free healthcare system in Poland outside of emergency situations as well.

Student Life

Campus life

Studying at the University of Wrocław is not only about lectures, seminars, laboratories or classes within the walls of your faculty. UWr is also a chance to meet interesting people and pursue your passions. Develop yourself in student scientific associations (we have around 170 of them at all faculties!), sports sections, student organisations (Student Self-Government and Independent Students’ Union), as well as a volunteer, choir member or dancer. With the University of Wrocław you will travel the world, gain valuable experience, prizes and medals and, most importantly, experience unforgettable adventures with people like you, i.e. with lots of energy and heads full of ideas.

Sports facilities

At the University of Wrocław sport is just as important as studying. This is demonstrated by good positions of our sections in the Lower Silesian Inter-University League and the Polish Academic Championships.

Student clubs

Students at the University of Wrocław develop their passions in 170 student scientific associations and organisations.

Some of the most active at our university are Earth science enthusiasts. Associated in five sections – lithosphere dynamics, engineering geology, hydrogeology, palaeontology and stratigraphy and mineralogy – the members of the Student Scientific Association of Geologists organise field trips to deep mines, open pits and quarries.
