Founded in 1881, as a university college of St Andrews, with the objective to provide equal opportunity education, regardless of sex or religion. We were the first institution in the UK to educate men and women side by side. We received our Royal Charter in 1967, becoming the University of Dundee.

The University of Dundee is organised into eight Schools containing multiple disciplines, each with an associated research centre or unit.

Student services

Our friendly staff are here to connect you with opportunities to enhance your student experience, and to support you with any issues you encounter.  

Transitioning to university life can bring challenges as well as opportunities. Alongside the promise of new friends, new experiences and an education come the pressures of deadlines, independent living, and self-management.  

We work hard to make sure that you will be able to focus on achieving your goals. We have a range of student services, offering different types of support and guidance, so that you can work to your full potential and make the most of your university experience. Services include everything from Academic Skills and International Advice Services to Counselling, Disability Services and support for LGBT+ students.

Housing services

There are four accommodation sites on or close to city campus - Heathfield, Belmont, Seabraes and West Park. All student accommodation at the University of Dundee comprises of single occupancy bedrooms, with en-suite shower and toilet, in self-contained flats of five to ten students. Each flat has its own kitchen, dining and living space with access to the University’s fast Wi-Fi. We guarantee you one offer of University-arranged single student accommodation subject to terms and conditions for your first year of study, as long as you are a September entrant and meet the appropriate deadline. If you are a Postgraduate applicant, you must have firmly accepted an offer to study at Dundee for September entry.

Library services

Dundee’s Library and Learning Centre (LLC) comprises of four library sites as well as a virtual library. Located on city campus, Dundee’s main library offers everything you would expect from a modern university library, including a café and relaxation areas, group study rooms with the latest technology, and flexible, creative spaces.

ICT services

The University has more than 750 computers for students to use on campus across its libraries, study zones and dedicated IT suites. Wi-Fi is also available throughout campus and student residences enabling students to connect to the network using their own devices. IT support is provided by the University Service Desk and is available to students seven days a week.

Medical services

The University Health Service is available on campus and offers a range of health-related advice and services for students. These include a counselling service, sexual health clinics and advice on how to register with a doctor and dentist upon arrival in Dundee.

Campus life

The University of Dundee’s self-contained campus offers students a home away from home in the heart of a truly diverse and inclusive city. Dundee’s vibrant night life, pubs, clubs, cocktail bars and restaurants will cater for all your tastes whether it’s a wild night out or a quiet evening with friends.

Sports facilities

The Institute of Sport and Exercise (ISE) offers a wide range of sports and exercise with facilities including a gym, exercise studio, squash courts, 25m swimming pool, sauna, sports fields and tennis courts. ISE works closely with Dundee University Sports Union, offering more than 40 sports clubs, ranging from traditional sports like netball and golf to skydiving and Ultimate Frisbee.

Student clubs

Our student accommodation is made up around 250 self-contained flats of five to ten students. All bedrooms are single occupancy, complete with an en-suite shower and toilet. 

Each flat has its own well-equipped kitchen, dining and living space, with access to the University’s fast wifi. There are no hidden costs as electricity, maintenance, wifi, and personal property insurance are included in the price. 

Most of our accommodation is at the heart of the city campus, and all others are within walking distance. Living on campus enables you to throw yourself straight into student life, and experience the very best that the campus and city have to offer. All first year full-time students beginning study in September are guaranteed one offer of accommodation provided they apply by the relevant guarantee deadline date (Ts&Cs apply). 

Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) lies at the heart of the campus. Like all good unions there is more than just support on offer, you can find food and drink venues and a supermarket. Close by you will find our sports centre, with gym and sports halls, and our library.
