With one of the most varied portfolios in Europe, the Faculty of Media, Arts and Design prepares students not just to enter the creative industries, but to shape and lead them. Our strong reputation for professional and practice-based education is matched by a distinguished record in academic teaching and scholarly research, encouraging the development of reflective critical practitioners.

Education

We offer over 40 different courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Research

The Research Centre contains two major research groups:

  • Centre for Research and Education in Art and Media (CREAM)
  • Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI)
With a strong international focus, the School has also established the following groups, combining the expertise of scholars from across a range of subject specialisms:
  • Africa Media Centre
  • Arab Media Centre
  • China Media Centre
  • India Media Centre

Career

Some 65% of the Faculty's graduates go directly into employment in arts or media-related jobs with organisations as diverse as Sony UK, the BBC, Sky, independent production companies and a range of magazines, newspapers and websites.

A significant number of graduates continue to study further at Masters or PhD levels. The Faculty has a highly rated research programme in both Media Communication and Art and Design, where it has pioneered a programme of practice-based PhDs. Some of our most successful graduates return to us as guest lecturers, while several of our research students have gone on to become lecturers and researchers within the Faculty.

Student services

Our friendly staff are dedicated to offering the following services:

  • providing information about all our undergraduate and postgraduate courses
  • providing advice and guidance throughout the application process, including interviews and applicant days
  • providing information about student funding, accommodation and visa applications
  • arranging open days and advice evenings

Library services

The Harrow library seats 750 students and has 159 computers consisting of 102 PCs and 57 Macs and is divided into zones so students engaged in group assignments can work and debate, while those needing absolute silence can also study undisturbed.
