History
Nord University was established on January 1 2016, after a merger between University of Nordland, Nord-Trøndelag University College and Nesna University College.
Cooperation between the university and community and working life stimulates development, through the education of professionals and leaders and through research that contributes to economic growth.
Education
A significant aspect of the university’s profile is its role as an important national supplier of professional education. Further and continuing education, such as MBA programmes and professional development courses in aquaculture, also form an important part of the academic profile. The university will secure its place in the higher education sector, and its mission, by building recognised academic communities within defined professional and traditional academic disciplines. These fields support development of regional communities, and business and industry.
Research
All research conducted at Nord University should be based upon respect for the rights and welfare the participants. Considertion of participants' welfare and integrity is the basis for ethical research and takes precendence over the interests of science and society.

- ISU Bodø and ISU Steinkjer are subsidiaries of the umbrella organisation ISU Norway. ISU Norway aims to highlight the social, academic and political situation of international students in Norway.

The University Library has eight branches. At Nord University's study location in Sandnessjøen you will find course literature and other academic literature at Alstahaug Public Library.
