History

The history of the University begins with the establishment of Intercollege in 1980 as a private institution. In 2007, Intercollege gave rise to the University of Nicosia as one of the three first private universities approved by the Cyprus Government. In a 2009 survey, it was ranked as the best private educational institution in Cyprus, offering Bachelor degree programs in a wide range of fields.

Education

UNIC strives to cultivate an academically stimulating environment that is student-centred and promotes active self-learning, imparting lifelong learning skills and competences to its students through smaller than average class sizes, a wide range of laboratories and innovative teaching methods.

Research

The University participates in a wide field of research, with local and international interest. Recognising that the research challenges of the future are multidisciplinary, UNIC seeks to combine the potential of multiple disciplines and synergies with other universities and research centres at the local and international level.

  • Once the school year begins, you will be immersed in UNIC’s international environment that includes faculty from around the world, academic partnerships with global universities, an active study abroad and Erasmus programme and a variety of national or ethnic societies and clubs.

Housing services

  • The University of Nicosia official student residences redefine modern student living. They consist of three separate complexes – SIX, U and TRIANGLE – which are among the most stunning student accommodations ever constructed in Europe.
  • UNIC Residences provide a multitude of dining, relaxing and entertainment options for residents, including restaurants and cafes, gyms, TV rooms, games areas and more.
  • Located in the upscale neighbourhood of Engomi, in Nicosia, the residences are surrounded by UNIC’s vibrant, urban campus that, in addition to 20 university buildings, is home to more than 70 restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and bars, all within walking distance.

Library services

The Library is a short walk away from the main campus building.

The Library holds approximately 100,000+ print books, a big number of E-books (600,000) and full text e-journals (30,000) from various publishers that cover all relevant areas of study and can be accessed through UNIC Primo, our new discovery search tool that enables you to search most of the library's full text resources.

ICT services

The University provides high speed connection to appropriate services and the Internet through a number of high performance local area networks (LAN), using one hybrid GB backbone built with copper and fiber optics cables.

Campus life

UNIC’s modern campus is made up of purpose‑built and customised buildings situated amid the urban landscape in the bustling suburb of Engomi in Nicosia.

UNIC City is oriented towards student life, allowing for a unique social experience, characterised by community interaction, diversity, learning and fun. In addition to the teaching facilities, the campus provides a full set of student amenities and support services. You can walk to almost any building on campus within 15 minutes, while there is a large free car park for off-campus students in the centre of the campus.

Sports facilities

The University’s state-of-the-art UFIT Fitness Centre is all about keeping you fit and healthy with its brand new, state-of-the-art equipment, innovative classes and experienced instructors.   • The University of Nicosia programmes of study are evaluated and accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (DIPAE), which is registered with the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR).
  • The University of Nicosia is a member of the European Universities Association (EUA), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Network of Universities of Small Countries and Territories (NUSCT) and is one of a few universities in the European Union that has received both the Diploma Supplement Label  and the ECTS Label.

Admission

The enrolment assistant made the admission process very complicated. I would request to have a better support system instituted. The pre-clinical Greek exam causes unnecessary delays for the clinical placements.
