The FH Upper Austria was founded on June 22, 1993.
The state of Upper Austria, the city of Wels and the market town of Hagenberg were designated as members of the sponsoring association for the preparation of the establishment, maintenance and operation of technical college courses in Upper Austria.
The FH Upper Austria Research & Development GmbH decreed in 2019 at locations in Hagenberg, Linz, Steyr and Wels 244 research assistants inside. A total of 17 main research areas were set up at the 4 faculties:

All the campuses are either in city center or in walking distance. Campus buildings are mostly in one place. The ones that are separate are in walking distance. Each campus has a canteen inside.
As a balance to studying, the sports club ’FH OO Sportsteam‘ provides students, alumni and staff with a wide range of opportunities to practice sport. There is something for everyone from yoga to triathlon at a range of different levels.

There are 8 tertiary education establishments in Upper Austria and the student life in the campus cities Linz, Hagenberg, Steyr and Wels is as multifarious as one might therefore expect. Even if students do not study together, students from different universities often party together.
