History

Founded in 1495 by William Elphinstone, Bishop of Aberdeen and Chancellor of Scotland, the University of Aberdeen is Scotland's third oldest and the UK's fifth oldest university.

Student services

Based on the Top Floor of the Students' Union Building, the Student Advice and Support team offers impartial and confidential advice and support on a range of issues, including finance, disabilities and specific learning differences, visa and immigration matters, mental health and well being, and more. 

Housing services

The University of Aberdeen offers student living for undergraduates at our Hillhead Student Village and at a number of residences based on our King’s College campus. International Exchange and Study Abroad students are integrated in to the halls with other University of Aberdeen students, so you will have the opportunity to meet local students as well as other international students. 

International Exchange and Study Abroad students are guaranteed a place in student accommodation for the duration of their studies, as long as they apply by the stated deadline. Information regarding how to apply for accommodation and the relevant deadlines and contract dates is provide at the point of acceptance.

Sports facilities

The Olympic standard Aberdeen Sports Village and Aquatics Centre is the premier sports facility in the North East of Scotland. It is open to students, staff and the public with facilities for athletics, football, swimming, racquet sports, hockey, martial arts, weight lifting, boxing and fitness classes, as well as spaces for a variety of sports clubs such as trampolining and ultimate frisbee.

The Centre is designed to be somewhere for people to enjoy, train and compete in sporting activities. 

Student clubs

The Students’ Association is the organisation that represents you, supports you, offers hundreds of co-curricular activities for you to explore your interests and talents, and works hard to make your time in Aberdeen as good as it can be. 

We run over 100 societies, which fall into the following broad categories:
