History

CIFE is a private European institute of higher education and research. It is one of the seven "designated" European institutions that receive special funding by the European Union. Founded in 1954, CIFE was among the first institutions offering interdisciplinary academic programmes on European integration. CIFE is based in Nice, Berlin, Brussels and Istanbul.

Education

CIFE offers intrinsically European education which goes beyond the teaching framework of national higher education. Its students form a small, itinerant and international community during an intensive academic year,  accompanied by an international faculty and thus experience the  challenges of diversity and unity.

CIFE strongly supports the mobility of its students: the Master students rotate each term, moving their place  of study from France (Nice) to Germany (Berlin), Italy (Rome), Belgium (Brussels), Turkey  (Istanbul) or Tunisia (Tunis). Study trips to Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxembourg, Dakar, Banjul and Paris offer additional  insights into specific  regional intricacies and challenges.

Research

CIFE is an institute of high-level academic teaching, on European and international relations, in politics, economy, social and cultural affairs, governance and federalism – all topical subjects for reflection and research.

Many of the research topics are intrinsically linked to the teaching in CIFE's Master courses covering topics like federalism and multilevel governance, the European neighbourhood, Mediterranean studies, economic governance, cultural governance, energy transition and sustainability. CIFE's research department focusses on research in the following fields.

CIFE publishes policy papers, the academic journal "L'Europe en formation" and organises annual research conferences on the above topics.

Career

The graduates of CIFE 's Master' s programs work as Senior officials in European institutions, policy officers within the UN framework, administrators, diplomats, consultants, researchers for think tanks, lobbyists, and academic experts.

Mediterranean international studies review

The CIFE training was perfectly complete as it combined both practical and theoretical knowledge. Our teachers were from different ethnicities and often locals of the country where we were based. The academic teachings were very interesting and specified to the region, the workshops and field trips attended were very enriching. The study trip to Senegal added the necessary knowledge about the African continent by being on the field and visiting different relevant institutions.
