About

History

  • 1996: Kajaani University of Applied Sciences amongst the first to be granted permanent status
  • 1998: The first English-taught programme, Degree Programme in International Business, starts
  • 1999: Laboratories established
  • 2001: The Information Centre opens
  • 2005: Degree Programme in Sports and Leisure Management (in Finnish) attracts a mass of applications
  • 2006: Tourism Degree Programme (in English) begins

Research

Research and development (R&D) is one of the key functions of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences. Our research and development activity supports working life and regional development in our competence areas.

KAMK has established close relations with national organisations and companies. Our research and development projects are very business-oriented. We develop products and processes, transfer technology, knowledge and know-how to businesses, companies and other organisations.

Services

Student services

The Study Office is the main information centre for all students. Each school has its own study office where students can sort out study-related matters. The Study Office also gives advice on planning and completing the studies.

Housing services

  • A company called Kajaanin Pietari provides accommodation for both degree students and exchange students. They offer shared accommodation and also family apartments. Some of the accommodation is located on campus and other housing is located 1 – 3 km from KAMK. 
  • KAMK International Office books accommodation automatically for all incoming exchange students after accepting their application. The students coming to study for a full degree, should apply for accommodation themselves. 

Library services

The KAMK Library, located on campus in the Information Centre, is at your disposal. Its collection of 32 000 volumes is certain to provide you with material for your studies, research and development and business requirements. The library also offers digital materials and has a versatile collection of periodicals. 

Medical services

The health care services are free of charge, as all university students entitled to FSHS services will pay a health care fee to KELA as of 1 January 2021. The health care fee is paid regardless of whether the student uses FSHS services or not. A separate invoice is not sent for the fee and students have to pay the fee on their own iniative. The fee will be paid directly to KELA.

Student Life

Campus life

KAMK offers a unique, integrated campus are near the town centre in Kajaani. KAMK has concentrated on state-of-the-art equipment and study methods, as the campus undergoes a process of constant renewal and development. For example you can opt to complete part of your studies as E-courses (virtual learning).

Sports facilities

  • KaMove offers sports services accessible for all skill levels for students. Activities take place in the areas and sports locations of our campus. Two different kind of gyms, musical exercise room and sport hall. 
  • We offer instructed group exercises and possibility to use the ball shifts in sport hall and gyms of the campus independently. The goal of KaMove is to enhance the wellbeing of our students and to make possible for everyone to do sports throughout the studies.

Student clubs

The Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Student Union KAMO organises evening gatherings and parties, winter events and excursions. KAMO also runs kiosk, book selling and photocopying services at student prices on campus.
