In 1841, University of Huddersfield was known as a Young Men’s Mental Improvement Society and had about 400 students. Since then we’ve grown into a university with over 23,000 students.
In 2016 our institution celebrated a very special anniversary. We marked 175 years since an educational institute was set up in Huddersfield to educate local working people.

Our student accommodation in Huddersfield is a unique place to live. It’s a buzzing student hub, with plenty going on, but it’s set in an idyllic countryside setting. Storthes Hall Park has a range of modern facilities on-site. Head to the free gym, relax with your friends in the bar, stock up on essentials from the shop or do a quick load in the launderette. In terms of the rooms available, we have single or double occupancy. We have ‘sociable style’ kitchens or modern ‘dining style’ kitchens for you to enjoy, and all of our rooms feature an en-suite bathroom.

On campus you’ll find all academic schools, the library, quiet study spaces and research facilities alongside green spaces, places to eat and a gym. We’ve invested nearly £156 million in campus development, and have fantastic facilities including specialist laboratories, studios and performance spaces. There's also a working canal that runs through the heart of our campus with a tree-lined towpath, perfect for those downtime moments.
