Linköping University

Linköping University (LiU) is one of Sweden’s larger academic institutions and among those that offer the largest number of professional degree programmes, in fields such as medicine, education, business, economics and engineering. Research is conducted within a variety of disciplines, with strong internationally recognised research environments, e.g. materials science, information technology and disability studies.

Since gaining university status in 1975 (and before that, too), LiU has worked with innovation in education and research. For example we were first in Sweden to introduce interdisciplinary thematic research, problem-based learning (PBL), graduate schools and several innovative study programmes.

Housing services

Accommodation is comfortable; with central heating and industrial-strength insulation you’ll stay warm while it’s snowy outside. Prices are much on a par with the UK and rents are reasonable. People can be a little reserved, but are helpful and friendly once you get them talking.

In Linköping, most students live in student housing areas situated within cycling distance of the campus. It is a good idea to start queuing and looking for accommodation early on. It can be difficult to find accommodation in Linköping at the start of the autumn term but it might be easier to find something in the surrounding area.

Many students live in co-ed dormitories, which are organised in corridor groups.

Library services

Linköping University Library consists of four libraries, located at four different campuses, and about a hundred employees. We have a strong position at the cutting edge of our field, with competent and dedicated employees at an enjoyable and stimulating workplace.

Medical services

A healthy life-style and general well-being are important factors for successful studies. If you find that your daily balance or study abilities are disrupted by physical or mental stress, you can turn with confidence to the staff at the Student Health Care Center.
