History

Koç University was founded in 1993 as a non-profit private university in Istanbul, Turkey. Since its establishment, Koç University has become one of the leading universities in Turkey, distinguished by notable contributions to the elevation of education, knowledge and service both domestically and beyond.

Education

Koç University’s strong academic offerings are further bolstered by a vivid social environment and dynamic campus life, including regular social activities, student clubs, sports teams and voluntary organizations. 

The classrooms and laboratories are equipped with the latest technological infrastructure and support systems. Additionally, excellent athletic and recreational facilities are available to all members of the Koç University family.

Research

The purpose of research programs at Koç University is to make qualified and genuine contributions to universal science and to positively influence the intellectual, technological, economic and social development of Turkey. 

The academic members recognize the value of interdisciplinary collaboration and work as a team while also sustaining their independent research.

Library services

Suna Kıraç Library was established on 12 October 1993. Its initial collection of 1590 volumes was located on the İstinye Campus, built on the site of a former match factory. Dr. Ahmet Şimşek, Director of the Computer and Information Technology (CIT) Office, held the additional charge of Director of the Library until December 1993.

  • Koç University is a non-profit university in İstanbul, Turkey. It started education in İstinye in 1993 and moved to its current Rumelifeneri Campus near Sarıyer in 2000. 
  • Koç University has other campus locations: West Campus, İstinye Campus, Koç University Hospital, Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) and Entrepreneurship Research Center (KWorks) which are located in İstanbul and Suna & İnan Kıraç Research Center for Mediterranean Civilizations (AKMED) located in Antalya and Vehbi Koç and Ankara Research Center (VEKAM) in Ankara.

Sports facilities

On the main campus, there is a multi-purpose gym with a seating capacity of 2,000, an open tennis court, a soccer field with artificial turf, and an ice rink. The gym is 42 by 32 meters and has a 156 m running track that has a panoramic view of the court, squash and racquetball courts, aerobics and dance rooms, a fitness room, a cardio room, and a table tennis section.

Student clubs

There are multiple clubs that are formed and run by students and proceed their activities in coordination with the Extracurricular Activities Office. Students who participate within these clubs can improve themselves in social and academic sense, hasten their adaptation to the environment of the university and take part in important events, learning how to be a team player.

The Koç University College of Administrative Sciences and Economics and Graduate School of Business were granted accreditation by AACSB International
