History

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, founded in 1918 and opened officially in 1925, is Israel’s premier university as well as its leading research institution. The Hebrew University is ranked internationally among the 100 leading universities in the world and first among Israeli universities.

Education

Living in university housing is an important part of your study abroad experience and a great chance to make new friends from all over the world. 

The Rehovot campus dormitories is an affordable option for students, situated in a beautiful green surrounding, with access to all the necessary facilities.

Medical services

All students at the Hebrew University, including part-time and external students, must have health insurance coverage for the period of their studies. If you are a non-­Israeli full-time student who pays tuition and attends an ulpan, a summer program, or a semester or year-long program, you will receive health insurance for the duration of your program.

Campus life

In Jerusalem, one of the most beautiful of cities in the world, the university maintains three campuses: the Mount Scopus campus for the humanities and social sciences; the Edmond J. Safra Campus for exact sciences; and the Ein Karem Campus for medical sciences. Its other campuses are the Rehovot faculty for agriculture, food, veterinary medicine and environmental sciences; the veterinary hospital in Beit Dagan; and the Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat. 

Sports facilities

HUJI has two sport centers in Jerusalem: the Givat Ram Safra sport center, and the Mount Scopus Lerner sports center.

Benefit from new and advanced fitness sport complexes which includes fitness machines, a covered and heated swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court, studio classes and more.

Applying for membership at the sport centers require a doctor’s certificate testifying that you are fit to work out in a gym.

Student clubs

The Hebrew University's four campuses are home to many social, cultural, artistic and spiritual opportunities. Students can take part in stimulating lectures and seminars, diverse social, cultural and religious activities, and invigorating athletic and recreational pursuits. Outside the classroom there are many things to do — from the Musicology Department's Monday Afternoon Concert Series to the Mt. Scopus Botanical Gardens — and many opportunities for Israeli and international students to get to know each other. Information about lectures, conferences, concerts and exhibitions can be found on the university's various Events Calendars; many of these are open to the general public.
