Basel city life
As one of the most important cultural centres of Switzerland, Basel has over twenty museums and a lovely old town with interesting architecture. There is plenty to see and do in Basel, not to mention you can enjoy a boat trip along the Rhine any time you like and have splendid views of the city.

The number of bars, clubs and entertainment venues has been continually increasing, so night life is pretty vibrant in Basel. One event that is worth attending is the carnival of the city of Basel (Basler Fasnacht), a major cultural show that is very entertaining.
The incredible position of Basel allows you to easily see other cities in Switzerland, as you are only around an hour away by train or by car to Zurich and Lucerne. In addition, you can always cross the border and get to France or Germany in just a few minutes.
International atmosphere in Basel
Basel is quite a cosmopolitan city, having over 30 % of the population as foreign residents. The largest ethnic communities are: Germans, Italians, Turkish, Serbians and Spanish people. As a university city, Basel also counts for numerous international students and a significant number of tourists come here throughout the whole year.

Weather Basel
Basel has four seasons and covers amounts of precipitations (rain or snow) for over 100 days per year. The wettest month in terms of precipitations is May and snow occurs each winter. The average high temperatures in July – August are 24 – 25 °C (76 – 77 °F), while in December – January they range at about 4 – 5 °C (40 – 41 °F).
