The university presently enrolls nearly 30,000 students, two-thirds of whom are reading for undergraduate degrees taught by a teaching staff of 1,800 professors, lecturers and researchers. The university is also proud of its modern and efficient administration, attended by approximately 800 service staff.

The University of Alcalá (UAH) is a public institution founded by Cardinal Cisneros in 1499. One of Europe’s oldest universities, its influence has been felt both near - it is one of the earliest examples of a planned university town - and far (its articles of constitution have served as a model for various Latin American universities).


The University of Alcalá offers degrees in five branches of knowledge: Arts and Humanities, Law and Social Sciences, Sciences, Health Sciences, and Engineering and Architecture. Its approximately 20,000 undergraduate students are spread across its three campuses.


The University is firmly committed to research as the engine of innovation and change.It is ranked among Spain's top universities in terms of number of doctoral theses, patents and research output.Through its Science and Technology Park, the university fosters relations between the academic world and the business community, thus fomenting the creation of innovative companies in R+D intensive sectors.

  • There are two university residences in the city of Guadalajara: the Príncipe Felipe Residence, and the Los Guzmán Residence.

Library services

The University of Alcalá has 14 libraries on its three campuses, with extensive opening hours throughout the academic year. Students can also order books from other Spanish university libraries using the loan service.

ICT services

Students on international mobility programmes have free access to the computer rooms located in the various faculties. Students have free access to classrooms, and can use the e-mail service and free Internet access. The University of Alcalá has wi-fi in all its buildings.

Medical services

The University of Alcalá Disabled Policies Integration and Coordination Unit provides specialised support and advice services for the full inclusion of differently labelled people in university life.

Historical Campus The Historical Campus houses the humanities, architecture, the social sciences and law.Campus externo The Science and Technology Campus Situated on the city’s outskirts, the Science and Technology Campus is home to the Sciences, including the Health professions, and Engineering.campus Guadalajara Guadalajara Campus 25 kilometres to the east, the Guadalajara Campus is well-connected with both Alcalá de Henares and Madrid. A variety of degrees in the Social Sciences, Health Sciences and Architecture are taught here.

Sports facilities

To make sure our students keep fit, the University of Alcalá offers them its sports facilities on campus and in the city centre. You can get involved in various sports, such as archery, badminton, fencing, rugby, diving, horse riding and mountain climbing, among many other possibilities.
