History

LYIT will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021.  Originally established as the Donogh O’Malley Regional Technical College, the Institute has evolved to become a comprehensive third level college.  It was renamed Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) in 1998.  In addition, the Tourism College Killybegs (established in 1969 and renamed in 1992) became an academic school of LYIT in 2007.

Career

We offer the following services:

  • Employment: CV/cover letter checking service, mock interviews, vacancy listings, employer addresses, aptitude testing service, careers seminars, class option talks, Careers Fair, employer presentations on campus.
  • Postgraduate Studies: information and advice on options and funding available. The Careers Service also offers a Personal Statement review service.
  • Transfer to other undergraduate courses: information and advice on options and assistance with form completion. 
  • Taking a year out to work or study abroad.

Welcome to the Careers Services centre.  We're here to help students interested in planning and developing their career.  We offer the opportunity to make the most of your transition from college to graduate employment by offering impartial, confidential advice on your options when you leave LYIT. 

Housing services

The SU Accommodation List provides a comprehensive list of third-party accommodation (LYIT does not have on-campus accommodation) available in the area; this list is made available to all registered students as soon as CAO offers to students become available.  The list is also circulated to returning students.  All accommodation providers on the accommodation list must be registered with the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB). 

Library services

All LYIT students have a personal library account which shows the books that you have on loan and the date they are due back. It will also tell you if there are any outstanding fines on your account.

ICT services

Our role is to provide technical services of the highest quality to the staff, students and the research community of the Institute, in a professional, legal and ethical manner.You can find out more about the Institute systems, services, and latest Computer Services information and news below and on our Intranet site.

Medical services

Welcome to the LYIT Health Service webpage.  We offer a full general practice service free to all registered students with an emphasis on health promotion, with a daily GP surgery and a full-time nurse.

Campus life

Explore campus life at LYIT and our state-of-the-art facilities. Development of the campus facilities has been in progress since the early '90s in accordance with a Master plan prepared at that time. Main Building: educational and support accommodation, including general purpose and specialised teaching facilities, research facility, administrative, technical and academic staff accommodation, library, dining areas, meeting rooms and ancillary accommodation.

Sports facilities

Sports and recreational facilities are located on campus in the multi-purpose centre (An Dánlann). Students, staff and members of the general public are most welcome to avail of the facilities.
