History
Stockholm University of the Arts was established in 2014 when DOCH the School of Dance and Circus, the University College of Opera, and the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts merged.
Education
- We have Bachelor’s programmes with many different specialisations. A Bachelor’s programme is a three-year programme, and you do not need to have studied at a university college or university beforehand.
- We have one-year and two-year Master’s programmes with many different specialisations.
- Stockholm University of the Arts offers research education within the arts. The research education is four years of fulltime studies. As a doctoral student you are employed at the university.
- We offer courses outside of the study programmes. These courses are usually for people who work in one of our fields and want to explore an area in more detail.
Research
Artistic research comprises a broad spectrum of investigative and reflective practices, methods and concepts with artistic roots in architecture, visual art, circus, dance, design, film, fine art, photography, arts and crafts, choreography, creative writing, media, music, opera, performance and performing arts. New knowledge is created by means of artistic practice being orientated towards research issues and generating concepts, processes, artefacts and performances.
Student services
SKh had three student unions that are independent non-profit associations. SKH's unified student unions (a collaborative body for the local student unions) have as their primary task to guard the students' interests, promote student influence and represent the students on the university board and the university's overall bodies. SKH attaches great importance to the participation of the students to influence the development of the university.
Housing services
SKH has very limited ability to help you with housing. Remember that finding private accommodation in Stockholm may be hard work but most students find somewhere to live after a while.
Library services
The library of the departments of Dance, Dance Pedagogy, and Circus has books on circus, dance, dance pedagogy and choreography. There are also journals, DVDs and CDs.
The library of the departments of Acting, Film & Media, and Performing Arts has books on film, radio, television, theater, mime, scenography, mask, directing, costume, and acting.
Medical services
As a student, you are insured for accidents that arise in connection with the teaching or trips to and from SKH. Stockholm Student Health Service (Studenthälsan) offers medical and psychological counseling as a complement to other health care. Student health prioritises problems related to the study situation.
