History
In 1997, through a generous $50 million grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation, Keck Graduate Institute was born. KGI represents The Claremont Colleges’ first entry into graduate-level, application-based scientific research and education. It remains the only graduate institute in the country with this sole focus.

Housing services
Oasis KGI Commons opened in July 2019 and the on-campus housing complex is open to KGI students, CGU students, and The Claremont Colleges’ faculty and staff.KGI’s on-campus housing complex, Oasis KGI Commons, includes an open outdoor plaza, student lounges, a swimming pool, fitness center, BBQ area, and 10,000 square feet of classroom space. Library services
All KGI students have access to a shared library and bookstore in Claremont.
ICT services
KGI is committed to the safety of our faculty, staff, students, and visitors within the laboratory environment. Supported by the Chemical and Biological Laboratory Safety Program, KGI ensures that anyone working in the laboratory has access to the training, information, equipment, and support they need to work safely.
Campus life
The unique structure of KGI, and our closely knit campus community, provide faculty members with opportunities to collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects and engage in novel approaches to teaching. KGI’s new model of graduate education, featuring interdisciplinary, translational research, attracts top-tier teaching talent and industry leaders to our classrooms and labs.
