San Francisco Theological Seminary

History

n the mid-19th century, Presbyterians in the Bay Area were determined to establish Presbyterian institutions of learning in the West. In 1871, San Francisco Theological Seminary began when the Synod of the Pacific charged a newly appointed Board of Directors with “organizing a theological seminary such as the present wants and future interests of this coast demand.”

Education

SFTS students experience an academically rigorous education in the Reformed tradition that is Biblically grounded, intellectually open, faith affirming, ecumenical, world engaging, and hopeful.

Housing services

The updated housing application deadline for 2018-19 is May 15, 2018. Housing assignments are made upon receipt of your tuition deposit, so sooner is better for priority assignment. While every effort is made to accommodate all students who need campus housing, no guarantee of placement is implied by admission to a degree program.

Library services

The San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) library in Geneva Hall on the San Anselmo campus is a branch of the Graduate Theological Union library, which is the main library serving all the member seminaries and institutes of the GTU.

Campus life

San Francisco Theological Seminary is just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge and the world-destination city of San Francisco. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Tamalpais, the seminary is located on 14 scenic acres in the heart of San Anselmo, California.

San Francisco Theological Seminary is accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS)

San Anselmo, California, United States
