History
The prehistory of the University’s establishment is connected with the reorganization of the Second Kyiv State Medical Institute, founded on March 1, 1931, which in 1941 was evacuated to the city of Chelyabinsk. Since during the war, Bukovyna was not almost destroyed, Resolution No. 1360 of October 20, 1944 restored the activities of the 2nd Kiev Medical Institute with the Medical Faculty in Chernivtsi.
Education
BSMU includes:
- 6 faculties (four medical, stomatological, pharmacological);
- educational-scientific institute of post-graduate education;
- 49 departments;
- center of simulation medicine and innovation technologies;
- educational-producing chemist;
- college
Research
The University has about 40 topics of the scientific and research works, 4 of which receive funding from the State Budget. Every year 4-5 doctoral and 20-30 candidate’s theses are defended. For the successful fulfillment of scientific tasks there is scientific-research laboratory and a center of clinical research, which purpose is to improve the methodological support and increase the efficiency of scientific research in the field of fundamental and clinical medicine.

To assist the students and graduates in finding their future jobs the assistance center of employment is functioning.

Housing services
The University owns 8 hostels where all the conditions for living and learning of the students are created, as well as 2 cafes and 6 snack bars.
Library services
The University Library funds number about a million of volumes of educational, scientific, medical literature and fiction.
ICT services
The University has 17 computer classes and over 300 units of projection devices (about 100 multimedia projectors, 50 panel liquidcrystalline monitors, 7 interactive boards) providing organization of interactive classes, testing, translation of surgery, webinars, online lectures by leading national and foreign professionals.
Campus life
The students’ campus consists of 8 comfortable hostels connected to Internet with high conditions of life with reading rooms and sports gymnasia – everything necessary for studying and rest. For the development of creative abilities and rest of the students the Palace “Academichny” is functioning actively.
Sports facilities
Sports club of Bukovinian State Medical University carries out training process in 19 University teams in 17 kinds of sports which comprise almost 300 students. 6 sports – health-improving groups for students and 3 groups for employees of the university embracing 122 persons. Teachers of physical training– specialists in corresponding kinds of sports and 11 candidates for sports masters.
Student clubs
On its basis various clubs and studios are organized: in particular, an art studio, decorative and applied arts and photo studios, the amateur ensemble of folk dance and song “Trembita”, drama and choreographic studios, etc.
