Whitman School of Management

History

In 2003, the School was honored with a naming gift from Martin J. Whitman ’49, H’08 (1924-2018), founder of Third Avenue Management, and Lois Whitman. Seeking to expand opportunities for students, the Whitman School opened its 160,000-square-foot state-of-the-art building in 2005. Today, Whitman programs serve as standards of excellence and achievement among the academic and business community.

Education

Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management combines the resources of a large university with small class sizes and highly individualized attention to offer students the best possible learning experience. Students study under the leadership of exceptional faculty members who are highly esteemed world-class scholars and researchers. A diverse, collaborative community, both online and on-campus, the Whitman School provides students with an education that prepares them to become leaders in today’s global business environment.

Research

Whitman research spans a diverse range of topics and areas of expertise. This is reflected in Whitman publications showcasing our faculty research accomplishments, research labs, centers and institutes, as well as academic journals housed at Whitman.

Career

The mission of the Whitman Career Center is to prepare students for their careers by providing transformational opportunities where students can discover their interests and engage in meaningful experiences which will connect academic knowledge with industry professions. With guidance from the career center team, in collaboration with Syracuse University faculty, staff, alumni, and dedicated corporate partners, students will develop their professional skillsets and learn to articulate experiences from their educational journey, priming them for personal and professional success in an ever-changing global business environment.

Housing services

Syracuse University requires incoming students to reside on campus during their first two years of enrollment. All first-year students will reside within North Campus residence halls, while new transfer students will reside within South Campus SkyHalls or (a small amount) within South Campus apartments. New transfer students are not required to live on campus; however, if you have completed fewer than 40 credits, you are welcome to apply.

Housing assignments reflect a conscious effort to ensure a diverse and inclusive Syracuse experience. The housing office does not endorse, nor are they able to honor room switches or trades.

Library services

Syracuse University Libraries aspire to be central to the intellectual life of the campus, to student success, and to the University’s culture of innovation. We advance learning, creativity, community, and research for One University.

ICT services

The Whitman School offers our students a unique advantage: we have a dedicated Student Technology Center (STC) and support staff to provide technical services and support only to Whitman students. This means that not only are we here just for you — we also have an in-depth understanding of your technology needs.

Medical services

As the hub for student wellness, the Barnes Center at The Arch features programs, services and offerings that promote holistic health and well-being, all in one accessible, centralized space on campus. The mission of the Barnes Center at The Arch health and wellness team is to provide quality integrated wellness services and programs, which support a holistic and inclusive student-centered experience promoting lifelong growth and development.
