The University was founded in 1968 by the Fondazione Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori, on the initiative of Senator Carlo Bo and Professor Silvio Baridon, as a University Institute of Modern Languages (I.U.L.M.). From the outset, the idea was to meet the needs of the labour market on the basis of an analysis of current trends.
The project that animates the activities of Università IULM is like a virtuous circle: the same elements recur at different times, but from time to time they appear enriched. Over the years, IULM's funding has increased steadily, including the provision of scholarships, research grants and doctoral grants, but also the recruitment and training of young scholars.
The key element is research, a starting point, which preludes the development of the educational opportunities, but also of arrival, for the graduates who carry it out and for the companies that benefit from it in the immediate future. The attention that IULM devotes to research is an important sign of consistency, which has its confirmation in the many works completed and in progress: works ranging from corporate communication to that of politics, from anthropology to fashion. A laboratory in continuous evolution that always produces new resources: not only for the University itself, but also for society in general, for institutions and businesses.
Università IULM has a dedicated help desk for international students. You can reach out to the Admission office or you can sign up to participate in any of our many webinars and online events we organize for international students.
Università IULM has 240 beds distributed in two university residences, of which 14 places reserved for international students participating in the Erasmus and Exchange programs.
The University Residence consists of double rooms of 20 square meters all with private bathroom, equipped with 2 single beds, 2 wardrobes, 2 desks, a shelf and satellite TV. On arrival students receive sheets and blankets. In the common areas of the Residence there are a TV room, computer room with Internet connection, a coin-operated laundry.
The Admission help desk can also assist you in finding other accommodation solutions through many university partners.
The IULM library has a collection of more than 240.000 catalogued books, more than 1.300 periodicals and around 56.000 film, documentaries and language courses. There are reading rooms, a consultation room, an equipped multimedia room and a book distribution area for bibliographic research, to pick up books to take home and return those borrowed.
As an example of global architecture, the IULM University building adds further value to the excellence of its teaching. Following the model of the American campuses, the Athenaeum is a very modern complex, technologically advanced and equipped with structures and spaces designed to give space to study, research, but also to moments of socialization.
Located in a constantly evolving area, just five minutes from the Design District and the Navigli area, it is one of the best connected universities in the city thanks to the IULM stop of the M2 metro line.
There are also 4 food & beverage outlets inside the campus and a supermarket nearby.
In addition to the curricular and extra-curricular cultural activities that IULM promotes for the development of leadership skills of young people on an international scale, you can participate in all student sports initiatives, coordinated by CUS Milan (University Sports Centre). IULM recognizes the educational value of sport and its relevance in the personal and professional development of individuals.
