Johannes Kepler University Linz

At just a little over 50 years old, the JKU has experienced quite a bit - and has a lot to offer: an outstanding selection of academic degree programs on one hand and on the other, it is a place to be happy.  And instead of scattering faculties and departments throughout the city, almost all of the departments are available in one, well-designed modern location.

In the fall of 1954 gradual attempts began to propose and create a "new kind of university" focusing on social sciences, economics and business. To this end, a separate board of trustees was founded in March 1959 and the Linz University Fund was established three years later. The "Linzer Hochschule" was legally established in 1962.

Those who have much to offer support diversity. And we think that's a good thing. That is why the JKU offers over 60 different academic degree programs in a variety of subject areas.

Whether it be medicine, humanities, social studies or law, whether it be engineering, natural sciences, social or economic sciences - whether a Bachelor's or a Master's degree, a Ph.D. or a Diploma degree. Finding your favorite degree program at the JKU is easy - simply because we offer so many possibilities.

Broadly based research at the JKU's four faculties and active exchange, and collaboration with internationally renowned colleagues in science and academia ensures that the JKU can meet the needs of society and the local business community. The JKU collaborates with some of the world's top-rated universities, and with many large and small, local and international companies.

Upper Austria is one of Austria's strongest economic states; a center of industry that is the perfect place for students as exports produced here annually are worth billions.  The advantageous conditions facilitate numerous research projects in cooperation with industrial partners so you can practice what you have learned during your studies and make important contacts.

Student services

The International Office is JKU's central contact point for student mobility, staff mobility and international relations in general.

Housing services

There are ten student dormitories located in close proximity to campus that provide accommodation to approximately 3,000 students. If you prefer a room in a shared flat or your own flat, then check out the Austrian Student Union housing exchange board.

And if you are just looking to stay for a night or two, contact our Office of Accommodation Services to help you book a hotel. Together we will find the right accommodations for you!

Library services

The Main Campus Library at the heart of the JKU campus is home to over 1,250,000 books - all available free of charge. The library also provides access to over 1,200 print journals, 22,000 e-Journals and 23,000 e-Books. And, with over 150,000 books and 20,000 journal volumes, the JKU is home to Austria's largest law library.

ICT services

At JKU you are part of an institution that contributes significantly to advancements in technology and social development. The JKU is conducting cutting-edge, pioneering work. This includes being the first university in Austria to create a "WirelessCampus", meaning providing free, unlimited and comprehensive internet access to all students.

Campus life

The JKU campus is practical for many reasons: because the buildings are in close proximity on the campus, you do not waste time criss-crossing the city. Take advantage of one of many places on campus to relax and hang out with fellow classmates and friends. Enjoy your time on campus, whether you are attending an on-campus student party, playing sports, or enjoying a cup of coffee - kick back and take a break.

Sports facilities

The University Sports Institute (USI) offers over 150 sports and recreational courses, providing a healthy balance to studies.
