History

Since its founding on May 1, 2009, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences has grown beyond all expectations. The resonance from students both in Germany and around the world has been overwhelming – after a mere six years of operation, the university reached and exceeded its founding objective of a minimum enrolment of 7,300 students. The best part? This is just the beginning.

Education

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences currently offers 25 undergraduate degree programmes and eleven graduate programmes across four faculties and two campuses: the Faculties of Technology and Bionics, Life Sciences and Society and Economics in Kleve, and the Faculty of Communication and Environment in Kamp-Lintfort.

Research

As a young, dynamic institution, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is naturally drawn to innovative, application-oriented and interdisciplinary research efforts across the entire spectrum of scientific disciplines. But we view ourselves as more than researchers; we’re also partners in research for regional, national and international companies. We’re especially proud that our research directly benefits the Lower Rhine region, keeping it on the cutting-edge and pushing its potential for innovation to new competitive heights.

Career

Our degree programmes aren’t designed to fill ‘academic ivory towers’, but rather produce graduates that can effectively apply theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts and meet the rigorous demands of the international job market. Through applied teaching and learning, small class sizes, a diverse atmosphere of intercultural exchange, and integrated internship/placement requirements, we train the specialists of tomorrow, who are well equipped with the skills to prosper in a globalised marketplace and make the jump from academia to a professional career.

Student services

The International Center is the central hub for the international activities of Rhine-Waal University with regard to internationalization, language skills and intercultural communication. In line with the international character of the University’s daily practice since its founding in 2009, the current Strategic Development Plan confirms the objective to incorporate internationality in all its areas of activity.

Housing services

In contrast to many other countries students in Germany have to find accommodation themselves. This means that a room will not automatically be assigned to you after enrolling at the University. Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences doesn’t maintain residence halls which is why the University cannot guarantee you accommodation.

Library services

The University Library is free to use for all members and affiliates of Rhine-Waal University. Non-members can also use the library for a small annual fee. We maintain a large collection of high quality materials at both our locations in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort. This puts the latest and most reliable information at your fingertips – an absolute must for every student, teacher and researcher.

ICT services

Rhine-Waal offers IT support services for students and staff in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort.

Campus life

  • Kleve Campus:

The 19 snow-white buildings, which have a combined 48,000 m2 of floor space and line both banks of the Spoy Canal, aren’t merely buildings – they’re bridges spanning gaps between people and culture. They bring together our student body – over 7,200 students representing over 120 different nations – and they connect our university to the local population in Kleve.

  • Kamp-Lintfort Campus

Our focus in Kamp-Lintfort is on applied learning based around the complex, real-world requirements that graduates will face. Our new facilities support us in this goal. The campus features five newly constructed and aesthetically-designed buildings, which can accommodate up to 2,000 students.

Sports facilities

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is there to help you achieve an ideal balance between body and mind with a broad range of sports and athletic activities for students and staff in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort.
