History

Sarajevo was first placed on the map of academic centres in this part of Europe in 1573, with the signing of the Waqfname (Book of Endowment) by Gazi Husrev-bey. Today, Gazi Husrev-bey’s Library is, as an associate member, the oldest institution within the University of Sarajevo.

Education

The University is committed to remain an autonomous academic community of teachers, researchers, artists and students incorporated into the international university and academic community and trends.The University continually invests efforts in strengthening its role as a responsible institution within its social community, and to ensure the role of the recognizable centre for scientific and artistic work, bringing together teams of domestic and international experts and artists around projects relevant to the domestic, regional, and wider social context and environment.

Research

The University of Sarajevo, in cooperation with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of the Canton of Sarajevo, provides access to citation and aggregate databases that enable the community of teachers, researchers, students and associates of our University to access the latest ongoing production of scientific journals and books (monographs) , as well as bibliographic-citation databases that allow you to keep track of new research (ongoing alert services).

Student services

International Relations Office at the University of Sarajevo was established with the aim of coordinating the activities and development of international relations with partner universities and educational, research and other partner institutions and networks of cooperation from Europe and the world.

Housing services

The Sarajevo Students’ Center is a public institution providing accommodation to full-time students of the University of Sarajevo. There are two student dorms in Sarajevo: Bjelave student dorm and NedžarićI student dorm. 

Library services

The Western Balkan Online Library Platform is a highly inventive, innovative and unique collaborative reservoir of library related resources and expert content which can be used, shared and further developed by any Library or Information Centre to help develop their service.

IUS is accredited with the national Agency for the Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HEA).
